LAND OPPORTUNITY: 1.5 to 7.5 acres for vegetables with peach and cherry trees – West Kelowna, BC

We always have new land opportunities coming into our inventory, some of which aren’t on our blog yet! Get in touch with a Land Matcher at bclmp@youngagrarians.org to learn about the latest opportunities and to access free B.C. Land Matching Program services in your region.

ABOUT THE LAND

This expansive 7.5-acre property, centrally located in the City of West Kelowna, is now available for a new or expanding farm business!

Surrounded by vineyards and orchards and situated on the Okanagan Wine Trail, this property has been family-owned for multiple generations. Historically, the property has transitioned between several farming operations – from orchards to vegetable production – and there are still some cherry and peach trees on site.

The landholders are keen to welcome a farmer onto the property and see it used for food production once again!

ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY

The property has two separate fields, and the farmer could make use of some or all of the space, as needed. There is also some space available for storing equipment on-site.

The smaller portion of the property is 1.5 acres and is mostly bare, with a few peach trees. This portion is fitted with a stand-up sprinkler system and is partially surrounded by deer fencing.

The larger portion is 4 acres and is currently bare land, but has recently been levelled with fresh topsoil. There is also a steep bank leading down to a ravine – if the farmer is interested in having this area levelled, the growing space in this field could be increased further. The entire portion has an underground 3-inch pipe pop-up sprinkler system, separated into five zones. There is ample access to water with good pressure throughout.  The irrigation is commercially licensed through the Westbank irrigation district, with a separate meter for agriculture use.

In addition to the two fields, there are also 2 acres planted with cherry trees! The incoming farmer could potentially take over the management of this portion of the land as well, if they are interested.

The landholders are particularly interested in a vegetable operation, but are also open to an orchard or vineyard. Bring your farming ideas to discuss!

ABOUT THE IDEAL CANDIDATE

The ideal candidate would have access to their own equipment, as the property has not been farmed in recent years, and equipment and tools are not available for use. As there is no housing available, the ideal candidate would also live within commuting distance.

Cleanliness is key for this opportunity! As the landholders live on-site, upkeep of the property and organization of tools and equipment is paramount.

Blank canvas opportunities with a central location for markets and customers are not common, so if you’re looking to start/expand a farming business in West Kelowna, get in touch!
