ABOUT THE LAND
This stunning 9+ acre property has 7.5 acres available to lease for a vineyard or apple orchard operation. The property sits on the picturesque eastern slopes of Oyama, overlooking Wood and Kalamalka Lakes to the southwest, and is part of a vibrant farming community. This area is often dubbed the ‘next Naramata!’
The acreage for lease is fully irrigated land and has a separate access drive. There are two homes on the property: one is occupied by the landholder, and the other is currently occupied by tenants. The acreage is all in one continuous pasture, which is partially deer-fenced (the rest is cow-fencing). The property is bordered by cherry orchards on two sides.
Once an apple orchard, the acreage has been in hay and has been used as pasture for horses for the last decade.
ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY
The landholders of this property have long used their open pasture for horses and hay, but are looking for a farmer to take over the land. They would like to see the land well-used, and offer an opportunity to someone interested in planting a vineyard or orchard. The landholders feel that this would greatly enhance the view from their home!
Of key importance is no or low-spray agriculture: with neighbouring cherry orchards and the site being their primary home, the landholders are keen to keep any spraying and applications to a minimum. The landholders would also be open to a farmer adding ancillary buildings and services to the property (e.g. a small cidery / processing area, wine shop, etc.), and they may be willing to offer some flexibility or assistance financially to the right candidate.
ABOUT THE IDEAL CANDIDATE
The ideal candidate would be a seasoned farmer with the know-how, financing, and experience to establish a profitable orchard or vineyard operation. With access to many cideries and wineries a short drive away, this property would ideally suit someone already in production, looking for additional acreage. Interested farmers should be experienced and confident at working in low or no-spray environments (where practical), or with (uncertified) organic or regenerative practices.
