LAND OPPORTUNITY: 6+ acres for a regenerative orchard – Coldstream, BC

We always have new land opportunities coming into our inventory, some of which aren’t on our blog yet! Get in touch with a Land Matcher at bclmp@youngagrarians.org to learn about the latest opportunities and to access free B.C. Land Matching Program services in your region.

ABOUT THE LAND

This ALR property in Coldstream has a six-acre field available for an organic orchard!

The six acres consist of a fenced hay field, currently planted in alfalfa. Aside from haying, this space has not historically been used for agriculture, and has been tended organically, with no spraying in recent history. Irrigation infrastructure is already in place, with a wheel and four or five connection stations. There is a barn with a hayloft on the property, which would be available for the incoming farmer’s use. Two separate gates provide easy access to the site.

In addition to the six-acre field, there are another couple of acres available at the back of the property. Previously used as horse pasture, this area is surrounded by forest and gets a lot of shade, so it stays relatively cool. This space could potentially be used for haying or other projects!

ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY

This property offers an excellent opportunity for an orchardist looking to start up or expand their own operation. The land would be particularly well-suited to an apple or peach orchard, and would not be a fit for cherries.

Organic and regenerative farming practices are very important to the landholders, so they would love to welcome a farmer who shares the same values. They are interested in a long-term agreement with the right fit.

The landholders are also interested in contributing their efforts and sharing some of the farm work, so there is lots of room to discuss opportunities for collaboration!

ABOUT THE IDEAL CANDIDATE

The ideal candidate for this opportunity would be a regenerative orchardist who is community-minded and co-operative in nature. Given that the landholders live on the property and are interested in being involved in farm work, this opportunity would be well-suited to farmers who enjoy sharing space and working alongside others.

There are no accommodations available on-site, so the ideal candidate would live locally or within reasonable commuting distance.

If you’re looking to start or expand an orchard operation in the Coldstream area, get in touch to learn more about this opportunity!
