LAND OPPORTUNITY: 4 acres for lease suitable for crops or livestock, Trail, BC

Posted by Nyree Marsh on April 24, 2024

We always have new land opportunities coming into our inventory, some of which aren’t on our blog yet! Get in touch with a Land Matcher at bclmp@youngagrarians.org to learn about the latest opportunities and to access free B.C. Land Matching Program services in your region.

ABOUT THE LAND

Nestled on the west-facing slopes near Trail, BC, this property basks in abundant sunlight year-round, making it a prime location for farmers seeking an early start to their growing season.

Spanning just over 10 acres, with 4 acres available for lease, the land offers plenty of opportunity for a new farmer or someone looking to expand current operations. There are 2 fenced fields that are approximately 2 acres each. One of the fields has a small livestock shelter and the other field is connected to a larger barn. The fields are currently in grazing rotation with a pair of sheep and goats.

The soil is silty with good drainage and there are two water sources for irrigation on the property.

ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY

The landholders reside on the property and maintain their own gardens along with a variety of livestock including chickens, bees, goats, and sheep. Recognizing the untapped potential of the fields, they are open to different types of production – cut flowers or mixed vegetables would be ideal, but small-scale livestock are also welcome. They are currently not seeking long-term production ventures such as orchards or vineyards.

Access is a key feature of the property, with the fields easily reachable from the main road. Each field is equipped with a large gate, providing convenient access to the areas available for lease. This land opportunity is conveniently situated less than 15 minutes away from both Trail and Fruitvale farmers’ markets.

ABOUT THE IDEAL CANDIDATE

With up to 4 acres for lease there is great potential for a market gardener to start small with room to grow, or for an existing farmer to lease more land for crops or livestock. The landholders are open to hearing from farmers with all levels of farming experience.

The landholders’ family home is located between the two available fields so the ideal candidate is a farmer who is personable and doesn’t mind greeting the landholder and having the occasional chat over the fence.
