B.C. Land Matching Program British Columbia Central & Northern BC Land

LAND OPPORTUNITY: 3+ acres for mixed organic production – Lillooet, BC

We always have new land opportunities coming into our inventory, some of which aren’t on our blog yet! Get in touch with a Land Matcher at bclmp@youngagrarians.org to learn about the latest opportunities and to access free B.C. Land Matching Program services in your region.

ABOUT THE LAND

Located just outside Lillooet, this beautiful 22.5-acre property offers a variety of opportunities: 3.5 to 4 acres of arable land, plus 6 acres of pine woodland suitable for grazing. There is also a 60-tree semi-standard heirloom apple orchard, not yet in production.

The available space has previously been used for hay, and most recently, for organic vegetable production – the landholders were selling at Riley Park Farmers Market and the local Lillooet Food Hub. Though the land has previously been farmed organically, it is no longer certified organic. The growing space will need deer fencing if the incoming farmer wishes to use it for vegetable production.

The soil is well-draining and fertile, with excellent agronomic potential. Gravity-fed water is available for irrigation purposes, with a water license for irrigation included.

ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY

This opportunity is open to many types of production, including various crops and livestock, provided the incoming farmer uses organic farming methods.

Infrastructure on the property includes a lean-to and a walk-in cooler, both of which would be available for the farmer’s use. There are also two one-room cabins with a shared outdoor kitchen.

The landholder is passionate about sustainable farming, and would love for their property to contribute to food security for the local community. As they are stepping away from farming, they would like to see an incoming farmer benefit from the fertile land and infrastructure on the property.

ABOUT THE IDEAL CANDIDATE

The ideal candidate for this opportunity would be interested in commercial agricultural production, beyond homesteading.

Farmers interested in sustainable production, local food security and organic farming practices would be a particularly great fit!
