ABOUT THE LAND
This two acre opportunity is located in the heart of Keremeos, partially fenced, and ready for organic and regenerative farming! Situated just south of Keremeos’ main drive, this small urban farm has been in production for several generations. The property is minutes to farm stands and markets, making sales and distribution a breeze.
Previously a mixed-fruit orchard and then a successful ground crop farm, the field is now lying fallow with cover crops. The current landholders are hoping to restore a bit of health and vitality to the acreage, with a view to leasing it out for a short-term (around 3 years) organic farm project – think nursery, ground crops, or another idea.
The field is deer-fenced on the north and south sides of the property, with a wide access gate on the north side. The west side of the plot backs on to the landholders’ private garden areas, with some foliage fencing (more could be added). Additional fencing on the east side of the property would help to entirely secure the area, especially in this busy urban setting.
ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY
The current landholders would like to see the property being farmed again, with particular emphasis on organic or ecological practices and plastic-free methods of production. They are keen to retain their farm tax status, but also to see the land used well and maintained in an agricultural capacity. This property has been passed through the landholders’ family and they would like to continue to live on and steward the land while supporting agricultural use.
The landholders have worked meticulously on the private areas of their property, and have invested into the two available acres to help bring the land back to health and vitality after many continuous years of farming. They would like to lease the land to a farmer who is similarly dedicated, with high standards for ecological agricultural practices. The landholders also value their privacy and outdoor space, and would like to work with a farmer who has good communication and is able to respect these spaces.
Ideally, the landholders would like to lease the area to a nursery or other low-impact, short-term project (ground crops would be viable here as well). Orchards and vineyards are not of interest at this time.
ABOUT YOU
The ideal candidate would be an experienced ground crop or nursery farmer, with ecological farming know-how and a small investment to make this project successful. This person would have good communication skills and a high attention to detail and cleanliness, to help keep the property in its current beautiful state.
