ABOUT THE LAND
Approximately 2 acres of land are available for lease on this 70-acre ALR property in the Alberni Valley, which is home to a working sheep and flower farm. Situated just outside Port Alberni with easy access to Tofino and Ucluelet, the location offers excellent potential to tap into coastal markets hungry for fresh, local produce.
The property was formerly grazed by cattle, then cleared around 4–5 years ago. The available land has been dormant until recently, but the landholders have started removing the stumps, and plan to sow an annual cover crop to prepare the soil, while it awaits a market gardener.
South-facing and well-draining, the available land offers good quality soil with some loam and very little clay, making it a promising site for vegetable production or other small-scale cropping. Although the site is not yet fenced and infrastructure is limited, the landholders are keen to support the development of an irrigation system using water sourced from a reliable, year-round creek on the property.

ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY
This is a great opportunity for a market gardener to cultivate a raw (but promising) piece of land with support from the landholder, who is already farming on the property.
The landholder—a clothing designer, educator, and producer of sheep and flowers—is building a mixed-use farm rooted in ecological practices, creativity, and community. They are seeking a market gardener (or team of gardeners) who is enthusiastic about contributing to a collaborative, carbon-beneficial farm model.
Ideally, the incoming farmer(s) would also be interested in livestock and open to sharing in the care of sheep, or possibly integrating their own animals, depending on fit. The farm is envisioned as a community hub where vegetables, meat, and flowers from the farm can co-create small intimate events.
A multipurpose building is currently under construction that will serve as a farm store and community gathering space, offering workshops on textiles, dyeing, and farming practices. The building will also eventually include accommodations; in the meantime, on-site living is possible in an RV.

ABOUT THE IDEAL CANDIDATE
The ideal candidate is an experienced market gardener with a passion for regenerative agriculture and a collaborative spirit. The opportunity is well-suited to a farmer who is excited by the prospect of developing raw land into a thriving, productive space. An interest in livestock—particularly sheep—is welcomed, as is a willingness to share in animal care or integrate more animals into the farm ecosystem.
Someone who is entrepreneurial, eager to explore new markets, and aligned with the landholder’s vision of a sustainable, community-based farm that blends food production, education, and creative expression, would be a great fit!
