ABOUT THE LAND

This beautiful two acre parcel is in Langley, and is owned by a lovely young family who are passionate about local small-scale farming. The property is right off of a busy road, but once you head down their long driveway it is a tranquil property with barely any street noise – the best of both worlds for those looking for easy highway access. To their knowledge, the land has not been used for agriculture in the past. Since the family has owned the land they’ve cleared back a huge amount of brush and blackberries, and now have a nice flat field that is available for lease. There is water access on the property, though water consumption will have to be discussed with the landowners as there is occasional water shortage – bringing in a small water reservoir would be of benefit to a potential farmer. The land gets a ton of direct sunlight, and is currently mowed regularly. There is a soil test available, however the soil type varies throughout the field as ‘clean fill’ was brought in some years ago. This property has a nice wide driveway that large equipment will fit down, and it will likely be necessary to bring in some good quality compost in order for most crops to thrive. The landowners are fairly flexible, and may also consider leasing to someone who would like to put a greenhouse  on the property, or raise livestock though the property is currently not fenced.

ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY

This opportunity is for a farmer who is in line with ecological and responsible land practices, but the farmer does not need to be certified organic. The family lives on site, and is willing to assist the farmer by potentially watering one day a week to allow the farmer to have a day off. There are two young children on site, so noise level will need to be kept to a minimum if working on site in the evenings.

The length of lease, possible storage, and potential option to have some minimal farm assistance is all up for discussion for the right fit.

  1. Hi,
I’m looking for the possibility of leasing couple of acres of farmland in Langley, BC with the aim of performing ecological farming based on the principles of nonviolence.

I’m a member of the ECOPEACE charity that was founded in Senegal where we are performing ecological farming on a large scale since 2006. I would like to reproduce this model here in Canada.
For more details on this charity, please consult our websites:

Should you need more details, please contact me on my cell (604 561 2423).

Thanks for any help you can provide!
    Kind regards,
    Ally Peerbocus

    1. Hi Ally,

Thanks for your comment. I’ll forward it to our Lower Mainland Land Matcher, Fai. He will reach out via email or phone to learn more about your vision and to share how the B.C. Land Matching Program works.

      Cheers,
      Michi

    1. Hi Natasha,

Thanks for your interest! If you sent your email to Ashlee, can you please re-send to fai@youngagrians.org. This post is a bit older, and Fai is the land matcher for the Metro Van area now 🙂

      Cheers,
      Keren
