We always have new land opportunities coming into our inventory, some of which aren’t on our blog yet! Get in touch with a Land Matcher at bclmp@youngagrarians.org to learn about the latest opportunities and to access free B.C. Land Matching Program services in your region.
ABOUT THE LAND
The available land spans 2 acres of gently sloped fields with ample summer sun exposure, situated within the ALR. Roughly 1/4 acre is currently fenced, having been previously utilized for vegetable gardens by the landholder. The remaining field was last grazed by cattle over a decade ago. Although the field was disced a few years back, it is presently overgrown with mixed grasses. The topsoil composition ranges from silty loam to silty clay and becomes rocky beyond the upper few inches.
Three water hydrants are strategically positioned along the length of the vegetable garden area. The existing fence consists of box wire attached to metal T-bar posts, offering flexibility to enclose the desired operational space for the incoming farmer.
ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY
The landholders are enthusiastic about sharing their land and can’t wait to see the back fields in production. They are open to various types of production, including market gardening, small-scale livestock, greenhouse cultivation, or beekeeping. The landholders reside on the property value and their privacy. A separate access road ensures convenient entry to the fields while keeping the landholders’ residential driveway private.
The duration of the lease is open to negotiation, contingent upon the farming approach envisioned by the incoming farmer.
ABOUT THE IDEAL CANDIDATE
The ideal candidate is a market gardener or someone interested in small-scale livestock. The landholders are seeking an independent and respectful farmer who values privacy. Organic and regenerative farming practices are preferred, but formal organic certification is not expected.
