ABOUT THE LAND

This ALR property in Vernon has up to two acres available for a wide variety of production types!

The available space consists of a gently southwest-sloping field with a mixture of alfalfa and grass. Previously, another farmer had been haying every year, but this will be their last season on the property, and the field is now available for other farmers. The field can easily be accessed from the road, and there is irrigation (and a water license) already in place, with a new, recently installed pump for the well. The irrigation system is set up with one line running along the upper side of the field, but a hose could be attached, to extend it.

The land is not fenced, however there is low deer pressure, as the landholder (who lives on-site) has dogs. The incoming farmer would be welcome to install any fencing necessary for their operation.

ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY

This opportunity is open to any practices (organic or conventional) and any production type: vegetables, livestock, hay, orchard/fruit, flowers, bees… you name it! The landholder is flexible and open to ideas. Their main objective is to see the land used to enrich the environment and contribute to the local community, whatever that might look like.

The incoming farmer would be welcome to bring a trailer or RV onto the property to live on-site. Alternatively, there is space above the shop that could potentially be renovated to create accommodations, or a suite that would also need some work – the landholder is open to discussing options.

ABOUT THE IDEAL CANDIDATE

The ideal candidate for this opportunity would have the skills and experience necessary to prepare the land for production and bring their farm vision to life on this property. Any production type is welcome!

Given that the landholder lives on-site, good communication and a positive relationship will be key for this opportunity.
