LAND OPPORTUNITY: 2-acre turn-key haskap farm with extra space to grow – Coldstream, BC

Posted by Haley Schonhofer on April 22, 2025

We always have new land opportunities coming into our inventory, some of which aren’t on our blog yet! Get in touch with a Land Matcher at bclmp@youngagrarians.org to learn about the latest opportunities and to access free B.C. Land Matching Program services in your region.

ABOUT THE LAND

Situated on a hillside in Coldstream with a stunning view of Kalamalka Lake, this two-acre haskap farm is now available for lease! The property is centrally located, with close access to customers in Coldstream, Lake Country, and Vernon.

The haskap plants are fully established and are ready for a new farmer to step in and continue the operation. The entire farming area is fully enclosed with eight-foot deer fencing, and each row of haskap bushes is fitted with drip-line irrigation. There are seven different varieties on the property, and each has produced successfully in recent years. The landholders are keen to see a farmer make use of the plants for their own farm business.

ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY

The haskap bushes mainly require management during the growing season, from pruning if needed during the dormancy period until harvest, which takes place from mid-June until early August.

The farm is on a slope, so picking is done by hand – no large machinery necessary! The landholders are happy to share any available hand tools and small equipment needed for the pruning and picking processes, including bird netting.

Other available amenities include a lean-to shed where the farmer can store tools or equipment, and access to an indoor washroom and seating area where the farmer can rest and escape the heat. There is also a small freezer indoors where the farmer can store limited inventory before it hits the market.

The landholders may also be willing to pass along the previous customer lists for the haskap berries, offering an opportunity to continue selling to a ready-to-access market and customer base. Alternatively, the farmer could also operate a u-pick operation or a market stand for farmgate sales.

There is also additional irrigated growing space where a row of haskap bushes has been removed which the farmer can use as their personal garden, or for extra veggies or produce to include in their sales.

ABOUT THE IDEAL CANDIDATE

The ideal candidate would be a new or young farmer who is eager to expand their farming knowledge! The landholders would be happy to share their space with a farmer who respects, values and makes good use of the land, while also respecting the privacy of the landholders who live on-site, outside of the farming area.

The farm has been managed organically, although it is not certified organic. The landholders would like to see this legacy continued, so the ideal candidate would be a farmer who is willing to manage the farm using organic methods.
