We always have new land opportunities coming into our inventory, some of which aren’t on our blog yet! Get in touch with a Land Matcher at bclmp@youngagrarians.org to learn about the latest opportunities and to access free B.C. Land Matching Program services in your region.

ABOUT THE LAND

Looking for a versatile agricultural property to expand your farm business or start a new venture in the heart of Kelowna? This expansive 14-acre property has 10 acres of growing space for lease, with housing available on-site. The property is located in the ALR in Black Mountain, a community surrounded by farming operations, with close access to markets and customers in Kelowna.

Previously used for alfalfa and hay production, the land is well-suited for a variety of production types. The property features an abundance of amenities, including a 7,500 square foot barn, a wooden pole barn, and two lean-tos with plenty of storage space. There is also a chicken coop with an outdoor fenced run, and two corrals with access to water.

The farm is equipped with multiple irrigation connection points with 2-inch pipe inputs, and the water is supplied through the Black Mountain Irrigation District. The property is fully fenced, but the incoming farmer may need to install deer fencing if their operation requires it.

ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY

This opportunity would be well-suited for various types of livestock, haying, mixed vegetables, nursery rootstock, or flower production.

In addition to the existing infrastructure, the landholder is open to the farmer erecting structures such as a greenhouse or extra storage space. There is equipment that may be made available – such as a White 6065 tractor, baler, disk vine and swather, seeder and mower – however, some of it may require maintenance work. There is access to power available on-site, and there are two separate road-side entrances to the property.

Also included in this opportunity are two separate two-bedroom suites – a rare find in the Okanagan! The landholders are open to splitting the farmland into multiple parcels and making both suites available to incoming farmers.

ABOUT THE IDEAL CANDIDATE

The landholder is keen to see the land used for agricultural production, and is open to all levels of knowledge and experience, as long as the land is respected and cared for. Incoming farmers are welcome to use either conventional or organic practices.

In the case that the farmland is parcelled, the ideal candidate would be open to sharing the space with other farmers and their operations.
