Located in Courtenay, this historic farm has been in the landholder’s family since the 1960’s. The property totals 23 acres, with several fields and some forested land.
Over the years, the farm has been used for grazing livestock, haying and growing gardens and heritage fruits and nuts (including apples, pears, plums, hazelnuts and walnuts) for household consumption. In recent years, the current landholder has been grazing cattle during the summer, and has established a system of trails for livestock to move through the forest. The property is also fenced with perimeter cattle fencing.
There are two five-acre fields available – the upper field is a flat, well-established pasture, ready to be put to use by a livestock farmer. The lower field has not historically been used for farming, but has good potential for cultivation, with few rocks and excellent water-holding capacity. With a bit of work, this lower field could be put to use for vegetable production!

This is an excellent opportunity to start or expand a mixed farm operation on an established family farm. The incoming farmer could grow vegetables on the lower field and graze cattle or sheep on the upper pasture.
The landholder has access to a mini excavator, a tractor and a walk-behind tractor and is open to sharing this equipment with the incoming farmer. If the farmer wishes to live seasonally on the property, they would be welcome to bring a mobile home on-site.
The landholder is keen to revitalize their family farm, and is looking forward to partnering with an experienced farmer to see the land put to good use!

The ideal candidate for this opportunity would be keen on growing food for the local community and managing the land sustainably. Regenerative practices are preferred!
Given that the landholder lives on-site with their family, good communication and a positive relationship will be key for this opportunity.
