B.C. Land Matching Program British Columbia Land South Coast - Lower Mainland

LAND OPPORTUNITY: 1+ acres for any production type – Chilliwack, BC

We always have new land opportunities coming into our inventory, some of which aren’t on our blog yet! Get in touch with a Land Matcher at bclmp@youngagrarians.org to learn about the latest opportunities and to access free B.C. Land Matching Program services in your region.

ABOUT THE LAND

This 3-acre property in Chilliwack offers half an acre of cultivable land, plus 1.5 acres of wooded land, ready to be put into production.

Historically, the land has been used for chickens and cattle, and the landholders have recently kept goats, cows, chickens and ducks. However, the land is not currently being used for agriculture. A creek divides the property into two. The cultivable space is cleared, partially fenced and gently sloped, with good agronomic potential. There is also the possibility of clearing some of the wooded areas and extending the fencing, to make more usable space.

The incoming farmer will have access to power in the cultivable area, and the power could also be extended into the forested area, in the case of expansion. Water is available from a community well that is checked by the City.

ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY

The landholders are seeking a farmer to bring the land back into agricultural production. As they are not experienced farmers themselves, they are eager to learn and excited to share the land with a farmer who has a vision for the space, and the knowledge and skills to execute it.

Any production type is welcome: livestock, hay, flowers, vegetables, bees – you name it! Farm structures, such as containers or greenhouses, would also be welcome on the property.

For accommodations, the incoming farmer could bring an RV or a tiny home onto the property, and the landholders would be open to adding an RV pad, if needed. The landholders are flexible and would be happy to discuss a variety of different rental arrangements, for the right fit.

ABOUT THE IDEAL CANDIDATE

The ideal candidate would have a plan for commercial agricultural production. As the landholders live on-site, good communication and a positive relationship will be key for this opportunity. The landholders look forward to sharing the space with a responsible farmer who will take good care of the land.

This is an excellent, flexible opportunity open to many production types. If you’re looking for land for small-scale farming in the Fraser Valley, get in touch!
