About Sandown Centre for Regenerative Agriculture

The Sandown Centre for Regenerative Agriculture is 83 acres of working farm, wetland, and forest, located on the traditional lands of the Tseycum peoples. The Centre serves as a hub in North Saanich for best practices in regenerative agriculture by working with farmers, researchers, and community members towards a more climate change -resilient future.

The Sandown Centre works towards 3 interrelated goals:

  • Support restoration of soil, water, wetlands and forest on Sandown Lands
  • Foster and support thriving growers in regenerative techniques
  • Inspire community engagement in regenerative agriculture as part of the solution towards food security and climate change resiliency

About the Opportunity

The Farmpreneur program is a supported incubator plot model that fosters a new generation of regenerative growers who are in the early-mid stages of their farming careers.

We know that being a successful farm is more than just growing food; being a regenerative farmer also means building a business. Achieving right livelihood requires a diverse set of skills including strategic farm plan and financial planning, best regenerative farming practices to increase yields, and farm branding and marketing.

This opportunity includes everything that an emerging farmer needs to get started in their regenerative agricultural journey:

  • South-facing plot starting at ½ an acre and go up to 2 acres, depending on the farmer’s goals and growing experience;
  • shared amenities including a greenhouse, irrigation, fencing, tools, a processing station, and cold storage;
  • shared market channels;
  • the support of a collegial peer group; and
  • ongoing mentorship from a diverse array of industry professionals.

The plots are available now for the 2023 growing season. Lease rate for the 1/2 acre plot is $1,700 for the first year, inclusive of the shared amenities, and mentorship.
