The Manitoba Organic Alliance is seeking an Organic Grain Marketing Assistant!

ABOUT Manitoba Organic Alliance

The Manitoba Organic Alliance (MOA) is a fast growing not for profit organization that represents the organic value chain in Manitoba. We work with producers, processors, buyers, and researchers to build the whole organic sector in Manitoba. We build capacity for the sector by transferring complex knowledge about organic production, and we help farmers to access new markets while connecting buyers to producers.

MOA is currently working on a grant-funded project to help organic farmers across Canada to navigate the organic grain market landscape. The project includes the launch of an Organic Grain Hub that includes a price transparency tool for producers and up-to-date international organic grain buyer directory. In addition, we will promote organic grains trade in the country by connecting buyers to producers via trade missions.

The Manitoba Organic Alliance is committed to growing the organic industry and shaping the future of organics in Manitoba and Canada. We foster networking opportunities within the organic community and collaborate to support producers to learn and develop skills.

DESIRED QUALITIES

Are you under 30 or a student with a desire to gain employment experience in the green economy? This position will give you some on-the-ground experience in the exciting world of organic agriculture. We’re looking for a flexible, dynamic employee who wants to put their communication skills to good use on this pan-Canadian project to help organic grain producers connect with Canadian and International markets.

Experience, Qualifications, and Personal Traits:

Are you a detail-oriented and motivated individual who wants to work on a multi-faceted project and who has entry-level knowledge of the key communication tools used in organizations? Below is a set of attributes we are seeking in our new employee:

  • Degree in any field related to communication, marketing, or agriculture
  • Strong written skill
  • Ability to undertake cold calls and network with people from all walks of life
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Interest in doing content marketing and research
  • Previous experience in event management would be an asset
  • Bilingualism would be an asset.

Eligibility criteria:

  • Must be between 22 and 30 years old at the start of the position;
  • Must be legally entitled to work in Canada;
  • Cannot be currently enrolled in school; and
  • Must be a graduate of a degree or diploma program from a university, college, post-secondary school of technology, post-secondary institutes and CEGEP (collège d’enseignement général et professionnel, Québec).

ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The Organic Grain Marketing Assistant supports the project lead and the organization’s communication efforts. This junior position will make this initiative a success through the following activities:

Marketing and communications:

  • Creation and maintenance of mailing lists for outreach and e-blasts
  • Support the development of quarterly newsletters (e-blast)
  • Monitor media and thinktank newsletters for market intelligence on organic grain markets
  • Help the team prepare presentations, reports, and webinars
  • Support the collection and posting of current organic grain sales prices through contact with both buyers and sellers
  • Support the Hub outreach strategy to organic buyers to get them listed in the Organic Grain Hub directory
  • Sales of Organic Grain Hub sponsorships and premium directory listings

Event Management:

  • Provide logistical support for incoming buyer missions to Alberta, Saskatchewan and Manitoba (summer/fall 2023)
  • Provide logistical support to Organic Grain Hub participation at international trade shows

JOB DETAILS

Term: As soon as possible

Hours per week: This is a full-time (40 hrs/week) position.

Wage: Remuneration is between $45,000 and $50,000 per annum, commensurate with experience. Three weeks annual leave, plus medical leave.

Position Location: The work will be conducted in a virtual environment. The Assistant can work from anywhere in Canada. The successful candidate must be available for work during normal business hours 8:30 am to 4:30 pm (your local time).
