Owned and operated by Cathie Allen and Rob Borsato since 1988.
We are looking for an employee to help us finish out the season from mid August to the end of October 2015. No experience is necessary, but an interest in organic gardening is an asset. There is an opportunity to learn from planting to weeding, weeding to marketing. We will work hands on with employees to ensure understanding of all processes.
Mackin Creek Farm is located on the west si de of the Fraser River between the cities of Williams Lake and Quesnel, Both are at least an hour away. Our climate is semi-arid with bunch grass, juniper and Douglas fir growing in the surrounding area. A shorter season but can also be very hot in summer, and a very hospitable fall season.
We have accommodation on the farm and workers eat with us, although there is an opportunity for applicants to cook for themselves.
We use horses for all our farm tillage and cultivation as well as raise chickens for meat and eggs. We also raise a few pigs over the summer. Applicants can be involved with the animals if the desire is there.
Our farm is 105 acres, with 5 acres in Certified Organic market garden of mixed vegetables, a heated propagating greenhouse and two 25 x 50ft tunnels. We attend the Quesnel Farmers Market each week from May to October and supply a small growers cooperative store in Williams Lake. Mackin Creek Farm received Vendor of the Year (2014) award from the British Columbia Association of Farmers Markets.
Duties on the farm ebb and flow with the season with the predominant job of weeding. But just when you think you can’t take any more weeding the focus will change. Many jobs are slow and days can be long. But you won’t be alone and that makes the work go faster, and the job much more pleasant.
