The GreenPAC Parliamentary Internship for the Environment is Canada’s premier internship program for emerging environmental leaders on Parliament Hill.
Since 2018, in partnership with Sustainability Network, GreenPAC has offered outstanding young leaders, aged 18-30, the chance to gain paid, invaluable training and experience alongside some of Canada’s top environmental champions in Ottawa.
Each year from September to June, interns work full-time in the Parliament Hill office of a Member of Parliament (MP) with a proven record of environmental commitment. Reflecting GreenPAC’s commitment to nonpartisanship, host MPs come from every major national political party. Interns gain a deep, day-to-day understanding of the federal government, becoming well-versed in policy research, legislative affairs, communications and constituency work, while supporting the work of leading changemakers. Outside the office, interns take part in a suite of leadership and professional development programming, including fireside chats with experts from the public, private and nonprofit spheres. Over the course of the program, Interns receive a stipend totalling $27,500 CDN.
GreenPAC Interns are selected through a competitive application process. Unlike many other internship programs, GreenPAC recognizes that leadership takes many forms. As such, there is no minimum level of education required to apply. We invite candidates who have demonstrated leadership in any relevant area and have previously welcomed interns with backgrounds in everything from political science and environmental studies to health, economics, agriculture, business, and social justice.
They are excited to offer the Specialized Stream in Sustainable Agriculture for a young leader from the prairie provinces (Alberta, Saskatchewan and Manitoba) with an interest and background in agriculture. They piloted interest in a sustainable agriculture stream in the 2020-2021 program year, with tremendous results. Their intern was hired after less than four months on Parliament Hill and they’ve already received requests from MPs for more interns with agricultural expertise.
This stream will continue to advance environmental leadership in agriculture and elevate rural voices in Canada’s environmental space. No political experience or specific level of education is required. This program stream runs from approximately September 2022 to June 2023 and comes with a stipend of $27,500 CAD.
Interested applicants can find more details about our program here and apply here. We are reviewing applications on a rolling basis, but all applications must be received by 11:59 pm (EDT) Sunday, May 1st to ensure a review.
