ABOUT Hummingbird Farm

Hummingbird Farm is certified organic (KOGS#84) and grows specialty cut flowers and small fruits. Please see our website We are located in the scenic Slocan Valley on the Slocan River, 30 min from Nelson and Castlegar BC. The farm is rural and as such we have housing on site for you!

We sell directly to customers and through 3 grocery outlets.

We are certified organic by KOGS (#84) since 2014 and we are celebrating our 10th year of small-scale low impact farming.


We are looking for an individual who is hard-working, physically fit, and is enthusiastic about sustainable organic farming. Experience is an asset but not essential, a keen attitude is a must! This is physically demanding work that involves the ability to squat, kneel, bend down and perform repetitive tasks in all kinds of weather! Day-to-day work is busy but is also rewarding. We harvest beautiful flowers, herbs, and fruits. The growing of these plants requires a lot of support! Much of this work is solitary, and extremely task-focused, but the feeling of accomplishment when a bed is prepped and planted is very satisfying.


The scope of your work will include weeding, harvesting fruit, preparing beds for planting, planting seeds/transplants, mulching/weeding, watering/feeding. There will also be projects!


This position will provide for meaningful practical field experience for individuals enrolled in agriculture, sciences or environmental studies. As a certified organic small scale, low impact farm we focus on soil and plant health in general, and as a flower and small fruit farm have a specific focus on long term perennial plant health. We will teach you soil health and plant care principles and you will directly apply these through your day to day work. This will be paired with full days picking fruit! We have an extensive library of resources and 10 years experience to learn from.


Term: We have applied for a number of grants. To fill the requirements you will need to be a full-time college or university student in the 2023-24 academic year intending on returning to full-time studies in the fall of 2024. You must be legally entitled to work in Canada and be at least 18 years of age. This is the perfect job experience for an individual pursuing education in a related agricultural or science field. We are looking for someone who is available from the end of their school year to the end of August for 18 weeks total.

Hours per week: 35-40

Wage: Pay is $20 per hour with the potential for performance based increases.

We have housing on site! Your own personal 26 foot one bedroom fully furnished trailer. Includes wifi, power, all the kitchen dishes, etc. Located in a beautiful shady area of the farm with gorgeous views. You will be charged the subsidized rate of $500 a month (pay check deduction) for housing.
