On February 22, 53 people gathered in the Merville

On February 22, 53 people gathered in the Merville Community Hall on Vancouver Island to share stories, build community and brainstorm future farming policies for vegetable farmers in BC. Co-hosted with the National Farmers Union, we shared laughter, tears and discussions that were soulful, serious and passionate in equal measure. ⁠

Meet one of our How to Start Farming course speakers and former Young Agrarians apprentice, Bronwyn Green!⁠

In our upcoming How to Start Farming course, Bronwyn will share insights from her time spent learning about regenerative agriculture in the Young Agrarians Apprenticeship Program, and discuss where her farming interests have taken her in her career. Currently, Bronwyn works with Holistic Management Canada as a Project Manager and Communications Lead and is an Associate Educator with the Savory Institute.⁠

We will also dive into YOUR questions about learning curves, land access, building a farm community and so much more.⁠

Meet Sarah of Rogue Acres in Viscount, Saskatchewan! Sarah is reclaiming marginal acres on her family farm and using the land for pastured pork and goats. With the help of mentor Arlie LaRoche of Farm One Forty, she is working to increase her business skills and scale up her operation to take her production to the next level.⁠

“I realized that working for the family farm instead of pursuing a career in environment or policy research was an invaluable opportunity: one where I would satisfy my interests in sustainability, biodiversity, and policy and be challenged to continuously learn and improve.”⁠
