Vernon, BC – The Food Action Society of the North Okanagan is hosting their fourth annual gala fundraiser, Roots ‘n’ Brews, on September 20, 2014 at the Best Western Vernon Lodge. Our team of  passionate chefs were inspired by the abundance of the season to create a menu that will thrill the taste buds, while all funds raised will go to support local food initiatives and events.

This year’s celebration of local food and food producers will begin with a tasting hour of local spirits from 5 – 6 pm, featuring Okanagan Spirits, Crannóg Ales, and the BX Press Cidery.

A four course dinner will follow, showcasing the remarkable food items that are produced and available in this region from our amazing local growers. Inspired by our rich food resources, Le Cordon Bleu trained Chefs Brian Fetterly and Maya Fetterly (both from the Best Western Vernon Lodge), and Gumtree Catering’s Billy Sanderson have conceived of a delicious menu including local meats, cheeses, artisanal breads and pickles, and organic fruits and vegetables. Dinner will be capped off with rustic pastries created by Chef Maya, and accompanied by artisanal coffee from Vernon’s Triumph Coffee and organic teas from Lumby’s Tea Grannies.

You can meet the farmers that grew your dinner, then dance the night away next to them with Vancouver’s foot stompin’, barn shakin’ alt-Country, gypsy, circus dance band, Blackberry Wood. Opening for Blackberry Wood will be OM featuring Mikkal Waters, who feature a groove heavy sound that lends itself to a captivating, dance frenzied show.

Food Action Society appreciates the generous donations from Best Western Vernon Lodge, Nature’s Fare Markets, SunFM, KPMG, Silver Rock Land Corp, Wentworth Music, the BX Press Cidery, Okanagan Spirits, and Crannóg Ales. An extra large thanks goes to  all of our very generous farmers for helping to make this the event of the season.

Tickets are on sale now at the Bean Scene (cash only) or the Best Western Vernon Lodge (cash, debit and Visa) for $60. Contact Kristy at kristyhennings@gmail.com about reserving tables for your group.

About Food Action Society

The Food Action Society of the North Okanagan is a non-profit, charitable organization that envisions a community where all members have access to an abundance of nutritious food from a thriving local food system.  Through our volunteer board and committees we organize food celebration events, offer educational opportunities and work collaboratively with community partners toward common food security goals.

The Food Action Society was integral in the development of the Community Garden Network in Vernon to provide a space for people to grow their own food. Food Action Society also developed an online Food Directory to connect people with local farm producers. This helps to sustain the region’s farm and food businesses, as well as strengthen connections within our community. Food Action Society is the host organization for the Good Food Box program, a volunteer non-profit bulk produce buying initiative to help families include more fresh fruits and vegetables in their meals.
