ABOUT THE FARMER

Cariboo Compost is looking for land to produce high quality compost while reducing landfill waste. Cariboo Compost is the leading curbside organics pick-up service in the
Cariboo region, currently serving the City of Williams Lake. As their business grows, they find themselves in need of additional space to expand their composting operations.

The farmers’ vision is to divert organic waste from landfills and transform it into a valuable
soil amendment for local farmers. To achieve this, they are seeking a small piece of
land to establish a long-term composting facility.

The proposed facility would consist of a 3-4 bay bunker or tunnel system built on an impermeable surface, preferably concrete or asphalt, to meet the Organic Materials Rules & Regulations (OMRR) guidelines. This foundation could be built out of concrete blocks on top of an already existing concrete slab or a slab could be poured in afterwards. The active composting area will be a timber structure covered with metal roofing to prevent rain and snow from entering the compost.

THEIR LAND VISION

For full functionality, the farmers would require a minimum space of 10′ wide x 40′ long for their active composting area. They would also require some additional outdoor space for material and equipment storage, totaling approximately 1 acre.
