ABOUT Lark Farm
Lark Farm is pleased to offer 1 to 2 part-time positions for the 2022 growing season!
We are a small cut flower farm in the RM of South Qu’Appelle, 50 KM east of Regina, Saskatchewan. We are entering our sixth full season growing a wide mix of field grown annual, perennial, and woody cut stems for fresh and dried use. We mostly sell our products directly via bouquet subscriptions and farmer’s markets.
We farm without chemical fertilizers or pesticides and strive to improve soil health and biodiversity and to minimize tillage and irrigation. We make our own compost and leaf mould for on farm use and seed starting.
DESIRED QUALITIES
We are looking for applicants with the following attributes:
- Physical – you must be able to: dig, kneel, squat and bend for extended periods of time while weeding, harvesting, and transplanting; manage filling, moving, and emptying full wheelbarrows of compost and wood chips; operate small machinery such as a walk behind tractor, line trimmer, and hedge trimmer; and load and unload buckets of water with cut stems and bouquets.
- Efficiency and Quickness – you must be able to work swiftly and efficiently to complete your tasks, mastering a variety of skills and always striving to improve.
- Detail-oriented and Independent – you must be able to carefully follow instructions and work on your own to completion.
- Love of the Outdoors and Gardening – you must enjoy being outdoors in a quiet, rustic environment in all types of weather, observing the diversity of birds, insects and plants in which you’ll be immersed, and heading home with dirt under your nails and on your clothes!
JOB TASKS
You will be involved in a wide variety of the activities that are part of cut flower farming and marketing – tasks may include bed preparation, transplanting and seeding, application of compost and mulch, stem harvesting, weeding, and trimming. You may also be involved in our farmer’s market sales.
JOB DETAILS
Term: April/May to August/September
Hours per week: Work is 15-20 hours per week, three to four (flexible) days per week, Monday – Friday. Ideally work begins early (7-8AM) to mostly avoid the heat of the day. There is the possibility of working at the Farmer’s Market in Regina on Saturdays as one of the shifts.
Wage: The wage is $13-$15 per hour dependent on experience.
Other: Employees must provide their own transportation and must have a cell phone for communication.
