Natural Collective in Winnipeg, Manitoba is seeking a Field Crew!

ABOUT Natural Collective

Natural Collective is situated just 30 minutes South of Winnipeg, MB. We are a small farm with 4 acres of diversified and ecologically grown vegetables, fruit and herbs. We are a CSA farm, a Market Garden and Wholesaler. We are a collective of three, first generation farmers: Ari, Adam & Nick. We do almost all farm work by hand, although have a small tractor that we utilize occasionally. We sell our veggies at three different farmers’ markets each week, do one restaurant delivery into Winnipeg on Tuesdays and we also have an 80 person CSA share program.

We work to provide good, nourishing, flavorful food to our community while tending to the health of our soil and expanding the biodiversity on our land. We use practices such as crop rotation and low-tillage in order to achieve these goals, and we do not use toxic fertilizers, herbicides or pesticides.

Willing to work some markets (Wed/Thurs/Sat)
Some experience with or knowledge of food production, soil, landscaping, farm equipment use are definitely considered an asset but not required
Must have reliable transportation to and from farm
Must be legally entitled to work in Canada

POSITION TASKS

Transplanting
Bed prep
Weed management (weeding with hands, hoe, etc.)
Building and maintaining field infrastructure (trellis’, row cover, landscape fabric)
Fertilizing crops
Harvesting and processing
Seed starting and tending
landscaping and site maintenance (lawn mowing, weed whacking)
Potential additional tasks: farmers market staff

POSITION DETAILS

Term: Start beginning of May and work until the end of October *

*These dates are flexible and weather dependent- if you are a student then we may be able to work with your return to school schedule

Hours per week: You will be expected to work Monday-Friday, generally for 8 hours a day. We usually do 8am-4pm but may start the season doing 9am-5pm

Market shifts (if needed) would be Wednesday 2:30-8:30, Thursday 1-6, Saturdays 7am-2:30. If you do market shifts we would adjust your regular hours accordingly

Wage: We offer a starting wage of $17/hour. Our staff also receive a full 15 week CSA share (value of $475) plus additional vegetables throughout the season.
