ABOUT Edible Acres Farm
Winderberry and Edible Acres Farm & Cafe & Catering are located in Windermere, BC, nestled in the centre of the Columbia Valley and Rocky Mountains. We are a diverse, family-owned and operated business sharing our passions of growing food and flowers with our community. Winderberry Garden Center provides our community with high quality flowers, perennials and trees and shrubs, without the use of any pesticide or herbicide. Edible Acres Farm is certified organic and passionate about growing organic food for our community. Edible Acres Cafe is situated in amongst our Greenhouse and our customers enjoy fresh daily specials made with veggies from the farm and as much local food as possible.
Our farm is about 5 acres of certified organic vegetables. We grow about an acre of garlic and 30-40 different veggies depending on the season. We are the only certified organic vegetable farm in the East Kootenay’s (as far as we know) and we have been for almost 10 years. We are going into our 16th season of farming. We are do our best to grow high quality vegetables with much of our focus on soil health and compost.
DESIRED QUALITIES
We want YOU to lead our farm team through the day-to-day tasks of all the farm jobs. We are seeking someone with farm experience, although management experience is not required. Must be physically fit, motivated to work hard, be a leader, good communicator, have engaging leadership skills, be a team player, have a positive attitude, enjoy people and able to sell at Farmer’s Markets, and be willing to work hard in all weather conditions. This position will be supported and guided by owners and will be required to manage a team of 4-5 people.
JOB TASKS
- Team building and communication
- Spring transplanting
- Field preparation
- Farm transplanting
- Seeding/ Weeding/ Watering
- Harvesting
- Cleaning and processing vegetables.
- Creating CSA weekly food boxes
- Preparation and organization of 3 weekly farmer’s markets and daily stocking of farm gate sales out of our cafe.
JOB DETAILS
Term: Starts March 25th. Ends October 18th.
Hours per week: 35-40 hours per week
Wage: Starting wage at $22/hour
Option to rent a one bedroom suite on the farm.
*All team members enjoy 20% discount at Greenhouse and Cafe and armfuls of fresh organic produce in the summer. Daily coffee break with the whole team and occasional treats provided. AND you get to work with an amazing team, move your body every day, take many deep breaths in the humidity of the Greenhouse, and surround your self with all things ‘growing’.
