ABOUT Puddle Produce Farm

Puddle Produce Farm is a small 1.5 market garden established on a 30 acre property on the Fraser river, in the historic region of Soda Creek (approximately 48kms north of Williams Lake, BC). We grow around 50 varieties of vegetables and microgreens for 1 farmers market, an online store and CSA membership, and wholesale. In addition to the market garden, we also have a small orchard of 55 apple trees that we sell fresh and pressed into unpasteurized juice.

We grow mostly by hand, and with small machinery: we operate a BCS853 walk-behind tractor and PowerOx 240 walk-behind cultivator for field work. The rest is hand tools.

Puddle Produce Farm was certified organic for 5 years, from 2020-2025. While we no longer certify, we still grow with the same principles, which are primarily:

low-till: we till when opening new ground, but after that it is only done around garden edges to keep grass from creeping in, or at a very shallow 1-2″ to work in fertilizer
organic-approved fertilizers. These are things like feather meal, fish bone meal, kelp meal, and gypsum
compost: We aim to add 1″ per season and just leave it on the surface
no herbicides, ever: we use light surface cultivation or flame-weeding to get weeds as early as possible
physical barriers for pests: we use a LOT of insect netting to keep pests out rather than using an organic-approved pesticide whenever possible
cover cropping: we try to fit in a cover crop somewhere in garden before the winter, and rotate them around

DESIRED QUALITIES

The farm is female-owned and operated and is a small crew: usually just 3-4 people. We know this work isn’t easy so we give as much as we can to make staff feel welcomed and valued. Our motto is basically work hard but make time to have fun and enjoy this amazing lifestyle (think pizza nights and hammocks). If you enjoy a good day’s work, are keen about market gardening, and have a mature attitude, we’d probably get along!

Skills and Qualifications

Must have at least 6 months of successful previous experience in an outdoor, physically-demanding role
Are comfortable bending down and kneeling for extended periods of time, able to lift up to 50lbs, and competent using hand tools
Detail oriented, efficient, and production focused
Fast learner and ability to adapt to new positions and working with new people
Punctuality and strong time management skills
Ability to take direction, accept constructive feedback and to ask for help when needed
Mature and positive attitude
Good people and customer service skills

POSITION TASKS

The farm manager is looking for 1 full-time Field Assistant from May 6th-October 9th, 2026. Work days are Monday-Friday and include co-managing our weekly farmers’ market booth on Fridays. Other responsibilities include:

Transplanting/recording field data and navigating our crop planning software
Use of hand tools such as wheel hoes, harvesters, weed whackers, and mowers
Irrigation set up and maintenance
Produce harvesting, washing and packaging
Packing for weekly online orders and Farmers’ Market
Assist with farmers’ market sales
General farm labor as needed

POSITION DETAILS

Term: May 6 – October 9, 2026

Hours per week: 40

Wage: $18.50-20/hour depending on experience and includes all deductions and benefits as per provincial labour laws, as well as all the free veggies you want. The position also includes a cash bonus for candidates who do a great job and complete the season. The candidates will work a 40hr work week with opportunities for overtime, if desired.

LOGISTICS
You’ll need your own vehicle as there is no reliable transportation to/from the farm. PLEASE NOTE: there is little to no cell reception on the farm, but there is a phone line on site and reliable Wifi.

Staying on the farm
There is a skoolie or trailer for any staff living on the farm. They both have a double bed, kitchenette, dining table, seating, heat, outhouse, and Wifi. We do not charge rent , but do charge a small monthly amount for utilities that staff use in their accommodations (propane, electricity, internet).
