FARM JOB: Whitehorse, Yukon – Sundog Veggies, Field Operations Manager

Posted by Michalina Hunter on April 20, 2021

Sundog Veggies in Whitehorse, Yukon is seeking a Field Operations Manager!

ABOUT Sundog Veggies

Sundog Veggies is training farm located on the traditional territories of the Ta’an Kwäch’än Council and the Kwanlin Dün First Nation. We are in our second year of production after a quick pivot from two decades as a successful northern tourism resort (#1 on TripAdvisor for 12 years).
In 2020 transformed our field of grass into a functioning farm with a greenhouse, pond, and gazebo. This year we are continuing to grow with plans to introduce 8 bee hives, build another greenhouse and a new root cellar.
Our main focus is growing vegetables. We had a great first harvest that we sold in local markets and donated to the Whitehorse Food Bank, our volunteers, and local Elders. We’re excited to start another amazing season working together with a community of young farmers in the Yukon.
We are located 20 minutes north of Whitehorse.

Our goal is to provide people in the Yukon with options for chemical free, fresh, local produce while giving youth (16-30) the opportunity to learn about growing food with hands-on training.
*Receiving an organic certification often takes 3-5 years of continuous soil testing. As it is our second year of production we do not have a certification yet but we are working hard towards it! We grow our vegetables without the use of pesticides or non-organic fertilizers.

DESIRED QUALITIES

We are looking for an energetic leader to keep things running smoothly on our farm this summer. You’ll handle new construction projects (sheds, fences, etc) and day-to-day equipment needs. If you’re interested in northern food security and working with a range of diverse people, and ready for a northern adventure… let’s talk!
