Looking for a farm job on Vancouver Island? Vitality Farm in Langford, BC is hiring a farm hand for the 2019 season!
About Vitality Farm
Vitality Farm is in its second growing year as a mixed one acre veggie and berry farm. We are focused on providing quality products serving our CSA members, local chefs and two regional markets.
Our farm has a number of hoop houses and a new greenhouse going into production this year. We typically use hand tools, a walk behind tractor, seeder, mower, and a conventional tractor for our daily tasks.
Vitality Farm is one of a number of farmers who are part of the Lohbrunner Community Farm Cooperative (LCFC) stewards of this 13 acre farm. We partner with Sweet Acres Farm to market our produce. LCFC is the first farm under the Food Lands Trust of BC. We value our role in being part of a community service coop and anticipate that Vitality will be part of programs run on the farm such as summer camps for 4- 6 year olds.
Our farm is currently in transition and hopes this year to become Organically Certified.
Our Farm Hand (you) will first and foremost be passionate and wise about all levels of vegetable growing, harvesting, and processing for our valued customers.
You will be capable of all tasks from soil prep, seeding, transplanting, weed management, harvesting and processing. You will be open to learning how to use our small power tools and other tasks at hand you may not be familiar with. You will have the ability to problem solve to be efficient, use lean practices, maintain your endurance, and do tasks well and even better the next time. You may be called on to run a market stand at some point in the season. Farming is physically demanding work. We anticipate that you will be lifting and carrying up to 40 lbs on a frequent basis.
Term: April 24 to October 11th, 2019
Hours: Hours will be from 30- 40 hrs a week dependent on the seasonal demand. Days of work will be Tues to Friday.
Wage: Wages offered are from $14- 16 per hour depending on demonstrated performance.
Please forward your resume with a cover letter that outlines all of the following: what areas of farming you are passionate about and how you have demonstrated this in the past in other jobs, areas of wisdom and any recognition you have had demonstrating these fine attributes, and areas that you need support for further growth.
Please outline your farming long term goals and how you see Vitality Farm fitting into those goals.
Send application to Diana at email@example.com.
