ABOUT Rebecca’s Garden

Rebecca’s Garden, about 1/2 acre, is a small operation producing certified organic vegetables, berry fruits, flowers, herbs, seeds, bedding plants, and preserves. There are two farm locations. The first is nestled in the woods and grows the greens, roots, brassicas, berries, garlic, herbs, flowers and other shade loving crops. The second location is a south facing slope on open terrain and grows the sun lovers like tomatoes, peppers, eggplants, cucumbers, melons, squash and beans. The first farm has raised beds, the preparation and cultivation is done with hand tools. The second farm is cultivated by tractor at the start of the season then weeding is done with hand tools. Products are sold at a weekly farmers market.

Rebecca’s Garden is certified organic by IOPA (Islands Organic Producers Association). We believe in working with nature. Sharing our bounty and providing the native species with a healthy habitat. Many flowers and herbs are planted with bees, butterflies and hummingbirds in mind offering them sustenance in the garden. Seed is saved at both locations to maintain some of the wonderful older varieties which are disappearing from the commercial market. The small seed business on the farm offers these choices to the public at the farmers market and at Seedy Saturday events around Vancouver Island. The preserves made from farm produce are an added bonus to customers at the farmers market. We are always looking for new ideas to keep the farm running smoothly, efficiently and happily.

Desired Qualities

Rebecca’s Garden is looking for a passionate, strong, fit, young person with some gardening experience to hire. One of the qualities we are looking for is a hard worker who enjoys challenges. Someone who is creative, confident and willing, and also finds joy in living life. Problem solving is also a helpful attribute, as nature always throws a few curve balls. An appreciation of good food and friends is also important when working with great produce and other companions.

Job Tasks

Cultivating, building raised beds, weeding, turning compost, mixing potting soil, seeding, transplanting; harvesting produce and prepping it for market; seed saving, involving harvesting, processing and packaging; and loading up the van for the farmers market.
