Island View Farm in Victoria, BC is seeking a Field Lead!
ABOUT Island View Farm
We are a regenerative farm working to restore and recover old golf course lands, and producing mixed veg, berries, and cut flowers alongside a brand new apple orchard and modest animal integration (35 hens, ducks, goats). We follow regenerative principles and practices and use a walk behind tractor and implements alongside hand tools. We sell on farm (20,000 ppl a year visit the property for adjacent activities), local markets and through a new CSA. We’re only a year old so this role is really helping us at a critical juncture of an ambitious project and there is lots to learn and contribute.
We follow organic (not certified) and regenerative practices, though are not certified. We intentionally selected the site of an old golf course for the farm, and we are working hard to restore degraded land and soil and while supporting a diverse ecosystem and building community around the farm.
DESIRED QUALITIES
- We’re looking for a hard working individual with basic farm, garden or landscape experience who can learn quickly and support all aspects of prep through harvest.
- Our preference is full time (30-40 hrs) through the full growing season (~26 weeks) but we will consider part time or shorter season engagements for the right person, and there may be additional shoulder, off season or recurring employment opportunities.
POSITION TASKS
- As field lead the employee will support all tasks from field prep through management, harvest and wash/pack support for CSA and market activities.
- They will lead a second field hand in peak season. Ability to lift moderately heavy loads and to sustain physical outdoors work throughout the week. Drivers license and reliable vehicle an asset (we also have a farm truck).
POSITION DETAILS
Term: Immediate start date, or as soon as possible. Approximately 26 weeks (through Sept at least).
Hours per week: 30-40 from May, though we will entertain part time in shoulder seasons.
Wage: $20/hr
