FARM JOB: Two Hills, AB – Prairie Hardy Nursery, Nursery Assistant

Prairie Hardy Nursery in Two Hills, AB is seeking a Prairie Hardy Nursery Assistant!

ABOUT Prairie Hardy Nursery

Prairie Hardy Nursery is a fruit and nut tree nursery located in rural Two Hills County, Alberta. We specialize in hardy woody plants suited to prairie climates, including fruit and nut trees, berry shrubs, and perennial vines adapted to cold winters and short growing seasons.

Our nursery is situated on prairie farmland surrounded by shelterbelts, fields, and natural habitat that supports birds and other wildlife. Production includes field-grown tree stock, propagation beds, and small-scale nursery infrastructure for seed stratification, propagation, and plant care. Machinery used includes tractors and basic nursery equipment for field preparation, planting, and plant handling.

Our primary sales channel is direct-to-customer mail order across Canada. We ship thousands of trees and shrubs each spring to gardeners, homesteaders, and small-scale growers interested in growing food and building resilient landscapes in cold climates.

Our nursery is guided by ecological growing principles and a long-term commitment to soil health, biodiversity, and resilient plant systems. We grow without synthetic herbicides or pesticides and focus on building healthy soil and strong plants that can thrive in challenging prairie conditions.

We are particularly interested in helping people grow food-producing landscapes in cold climates. Our work focuses on hardy genetics, practical horticulture, and sharing knowledge so more people can successfully grow fruit and nut trees on the Canadian prairies.

We believe agriculture can work with natural systems rather than against them, and we aim to steward the land responsibly while producing high-quality plants for our customers.

DESIRED QUALITIES

We are looking for someone who is physically capable, reliable, and motivated to work outdoors in a hands-on agricultural setting. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, able to follow instructions carefully, and willing to work hard during busy seasonal periods.

A positive attitude, strong work ethic, and ability to work well within a small team are very important. Curiosity about plants, soil, ecology, or horticulture is a strong asset, but a willingness to learn and contribute is most important.

* Accommodation may be available for the right candidate(s). We have more than one position available, feel free to apply as a couple or a set of friends. We are looking for folks to work in the field, and also in our shipping department between April to late-May, with planting and nursery work afterwards available.

* We offer a fragrance-free, smoke-free working environment.
