c̓əlisələm in Tsawwassen First Nation, BC are seeking two Farm Staff!
ABOUT c̓əlisələm
c̓əlisələm is a community run market garden project located on Tsawwassen First Nation, thirty kilometres from Vancouver, BC. The goal of the project is to provide food security within the TFN community while exchanging and sharing knowledge of sustainable farming practices. 2022 was our pilot year growing on ¼ acre of land. This year we intend on doubling production as well as completing some major infrastructure upgrades and projects. All produce is distributed locally to the community through a member CSA. We also provide vegetables weekly to the Elders and Youth Programs as well as other community events.
Tsawwassen First Nation Members are connected to taking care of their lands and resources. Farming these lands means sustaining their families for present and future generations and will promote their well-being, self-reliance and prosperity.
We grow over 30 varieties of vegetables in successive plantings throughout the season. We use organic practices however we are not certified at this time. Our goal is to grow sustainably and put many efforts into low till, heavy compost farming techniques. Soil health is of paramount importance and we are actively cover cropping and practicing proper crop rotation to maintain this. We currently have one hoophouse for Summer crops and intend on upgrading our poly culture growing capacity this year.
