About Tsawwassen Farm School

The Tsawwassen Farm School is a collaboration between the Tsawwassen First Nation (TFN) and the Institute for Sustainable Food Systems (ISFS). The school program is open to anyone curious about the practice of farming to feed a growing population, in ways that restore the land and nurture Mother Earth. The Tsawwassen Farm School is a gathering place to raise awareness around human scaled, community focused, alternative food production. The farm reflects aspects of Indigenous food ways through having a traditional medicinal garden, building a smokehouse, organizing feasts on the farm and inviting knowledge keepers to share wisdom and stories with our students. The program curriculum takes place on a 20 acre certified organic farm on traditional TFN land. The farm produces mixed vegetables, fruits and raises livestock (pigs and chickens) in an ecologically sound, integrated production system on 7 of the 20 acres. The utilizes a ride-on tractor and a walk-behind tractor occasional and the produce goes to the farmers markets, a CSA, restaurants and donations to the TFN community.

Farm School Values:

  • The school fuses sustainable agriculture and traditional Indigenous food ways as tools to build community and create dialogue around land stewardship
