ABOUT Nutrient Dense Farm
Nutrient Dense Farm is an aspiring bio-dynamic farm based in the heart of the Upper Squamish Valley. We currently farm two plots of leased land, one at the Queen of Peace Monastery and our home plot still in the early development phase of its farming evolution. Our model promotes, and educates about regenerative agriculture, soil and plant health, environmental stewardship, community development, biodynamic preparations, nutrition, and working with astrological energies to promote a holistic farming experience for all involved!
Biodynamics is ultimately not just a set of alternative agricultural methods but a way of seeing, understanding the natural world, and aligning us and our farm with spiritual science.
Steiner called for and pioneered, planted a seed of a new form of science, which he called spiritual science, that could grapple with both the material and/or spiritual aspects of reality. As biodynamic farmers, we are working to develop our own sense and observe the more subtle formative forces at work in nature, and to use our own insights/ intuitive knowing to further enhance the vitality of our farm. Our Biodynamic farm will be ever-evolving, as will we!
DESIRED QUALITIES
Responsibilities & qualifications we are seeking in our farm crew:
- ability to communicate and have interpersonal skills.
- open-minded, works well within a team environment and independently.
- able to handle feedback respectfully.
- takes initiative in looking for ways to improve processes.
- physical and mental endurance to work in all types of weather conditions.
- flexibility schedule and hours (weather dependant we do split shifts, start early, break, work late)
- willingness to put in a longer day if necessary.
- strong prioritizing and time management skills.
- Attention to detail and quality.
- physically strong, farming can be extremely strenuous on back, knees, hips and wrists
- capable of carrying out tasks that require bending for long periods of time
- lift 45 lbs.
- skills and ability to run a walk behind tractor, hand tools, etc.
- fluent in English
- Preferably at least one season of production based farm experience, or tree planting, landscaping, some type of physical labour job
- reliable means of transportation.
- Canadian Citizen
JOB TASKS
Our farm crew participates in all aspects of the farm from washing Rubbermaids, sowing trays, bed prep, harvesting, sorting/washing, packing veg for CSA’s, irrigation, weeding with hand tools & by hand, pruning tomatoes, assisting with moving tunnels, operating walk behind tractors to customer service and set up at our local farmers market. We are a small-scale production farm that requires a good crew with a hustle in a fast-paced environment. We are seeking a crew that has a passion for hard work, love for the land and small scale agriculture.
JOB DETAILS
Term: Full-time position, beginning May to late October. Must be able to commit to the whole season.
Hours per week: 5 days (40 + hours per week)
Wage: $18-$20/ hour (depending on experience)+ 4% vacation pay + amazing produce (whatever you need for your personal consumption).
