ALM Organic Farm & Full Circle Seeds
ALM Farm and Full Circle Seeds were started in the mid-90’s on a 100 year old farm 8 km west of Sooke. An adjoining timbered property was acquired in 2007. The farm has 6 greenhouses, a large barn and a new farm store with a harvest area and walk in cool room. The owner pioneered organic growing helping to start the Moss Street Market. Over 200 apprentices have trained at this farm many going on to start their own farms. We have a small box program of about 15 people, the first box program in the area; sell on Saturday at the Moss street market in Victoria, at our farm store and to a number of local restaurants. We have a two to four apprentices living on the farm and working full time as well as several volunteers who come for full or half days throughout the week. Full Circle Seeds has over 250 varieties of seeds we grow on our farm and market through our website, at the markets and the Seedy Saturdays on the Island. The owner is involved in the farm but lives on a different property 4 km from the farm.
DESIRED QUALITIES
Applicant must:
- have at least 1-2 years experience in diversified organic vegetable production
- be a fast, organized, efficient, and tidy worker
- be keen to operate farm machinery (rototiller, mower, tractor)
- be committed to certified organic principles
- be an excellent communicator
- be able to work under pressure while maintaining supportive and communicative atmosphere with co-workers
- be able to see the whole picture while being extremely detail oriented
JOB TASKS
- Management of day to day operations of seeding, potting up, transplanting, weeding, irrigation, prepping beds, harvesting, washing and packing produce for sale
- Close communication with owner
- Management of apprentices and occasional volunteers
- Oversee irrigation schedule and repairs;)
- Estimating harvest amounts 2 days ahead of harvest
- Record keeping re seeding dates, fertilizer application, manure management
- Planning for seed crop production and harvesting
- Tracking and ordering/picking up supplies as needed
- Maintaining long term farm fertility and attentiveness to the big picture for the farm
- Integrating new methods with tried and true old ones

Term: The position starts the first week January and is full time for the year. For the right
person this could become a permanent position with potential to take on more ownership. Hence preference given to longer term applicants:)
Hours per week: 5 days/week, Mon-Fri, approx 9-5 and every second Saturday 8-4.
Wage: Pay is negotiable between $17-20/hr depending on experience and includes two weeks paid vacation, WCB coverage, and unlimited access to produce. Housing on the farm available.
