For 25 years the Bulkley Valley Farmers’ Market has offered a wide array of fresh local produce and meats, tempting baked goods, and unique and eclectic artisan crafts in northern BC – all made, baked, or grown locally by our vendors.

The Bulkley Valley Farmers’ Market is looking for an energetic and enthusiastic individual to run the weekly operations of our farmers’ market. The 2025 market season will operate on Saturdays from 8:30am to 12:30pm, from May 3rd to October 11th (24 markets). The market manager must be available on Saturdays as well as a few hours during the week for administrative duties, and must be comfortable working outdoors in all weather.

DESIRED QUALITIES

Accountabilities:

  • Oversees weekly planning, setup, stall allocation, operation and cleanup of the market – is present on-site during market hours.
  • Works closely with the Market’s volunteer Board of Directors, attends monthly board meetings as necessary and helps plan special event days.
  • Liaises with current market vendors, musicians, customers, and members of the public via phone, email, and is the main point of contact at the Saturday markets.
  • Oversees collection of vendor fees, and completes weekly record-keeping of digital market reports.
  • Communicates with Northern Health and other community contacts as required to ensure the compliance with health authority regulations.

Skills and Abilities of the Market Manager:

  • Has strong English verbal and written communication skills and strong computer skills
  • Has good judgment in dealing with interpersonal relationships and conflict, and is able to explain and enforce market rules professionally.
  • Able to interact with all market stakeholders and attendees politely and professionally.
  • Is organized and detail-oriented with good time-management skills
  • Physically capable of setting up and taking down market equipment (canopies, tents, chairs, etc.)
  • A valid Class 5 drivers’ license is required. 

POSITION DETAILS

Term: The role is on a contract basis from early May to mid/late October.

Hours per week: It’s on average 8-10 hours a week. Approximately 6-7 hours on market days (includes set up and clean up), and 1-3 hours of administrative work, which can be done on market days or separately.

Wage: The starting wage is 250$ per market. Training prior to the first market will be provided. The contract may be open to renewal for following years.
