ABOUT Salt Spring Abattoir
Do you hate office jobs? Is local, sustainable food production your jam? Want to spend the summer on Salt Spring Island and learn some new skills?
You may be just the person we’ve been looking for.
This summer, if you are between 15 and 30 years old, come work at the Salt Spring Abattoir and learn practical meat processing skills. You’ll be a sustainable food hero.
The Salt Spring Abattoir processes a wide range of animals, including chickens, lambs, cows, goats and pigs, for the Salt Spring Island farming community.
In this position, you’ll do a bit of everything, so you’ll gain a wide range of skills and experience. We’ve got a great, friendly crew you’ll enjoy working with.
This position is funded through the Government of Canada’s Summer Jobs program, so to be eligible for this position, you must:
- Be between 15 and 30 years old
- Be able to commit to at least 30 hours per week for a minimum of 8 weeks
- Be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or refugee
- Be legally entitled to work in Canada
- Have a valid Social Insurance Number
- Be physically fit and able to lift 30lbs
Reliability is an absolute must in this position. No previous experience necessary.
Workers will be doing everything to do with meat processing, from slaughter, cutting, wrapping, maintaining proper records
Term: Summer position, start ASAP.
Hours per week: 30 hours per week
Wage: $18–20 per hour.
