Bullock Lake Farm on Salt Spring Island, BC is seeking a Field Worker!
ABOUT Bullock Lake Farm
We grow 2.5 acres of vegetables, flowers, berries and herbs on our 24-acre farm on Salt Spring Island, BC. Our 100 member CSA is the heart of our farm, and most of the produce we grow goes to our member families. We also sell through our farmstand, wholesale accounts, and events.
We feel lucky to call this beautiful farm home and we love to share the farm through our CSA program, workshops, events, and summer camp! We are quite a bustling place in the summer months.
Crop rotation, cover cropping, and organic amendments keep our fields healthy to be able to grow hundreds of varieties of produce and flowers.
DESIRED QUALITIES
We prefer candidates with previous farming experience. All candidates must have a good work ethic, be comfortable with physical labour, and be happy working in the rain! Our farm is fast paced and ever changing; the ability to adapt, work independently as well as part of a team will help you succeed in this role. And a good sense of humour is always a bonus.
This is a grant funded position so the applicant must also meet the following requirements:
- Be between the ages of 15 and 30 at start of employment
- Be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or a person with refugee status
JOB TASKS
The Field Workers will work on general farm tasks such as transplanting, weeding, crop maintenance, harvesting, and processing. The vast majority of the work will be on fruit and vegetable crops as we have a separate flower team for our floral crops. Supervision will be provided by the Field Manager as well as Farm Owners.
JOB DETAILS
Term: Ideally full-time April thru October but we can accommodate the right candidate.
Hours per week: 40
Wage: $16-$20/hr depending on experience. $16/hr – no production farm experience. $20/hr – 2+ years production farm experience.
Farm staff gets access to extra veggies and swimming at the lake!
We are unable to provide housing. But we could provide a space to park a van or pitch a tent for the right candidate.
