ABOUT U Grow Girl
The job post is not for a typical farm operation, but for U Grow Girl, an organization that cultivates sustainable, locally grown floral and healing-inspired artisan goods to cover the cost of their “Time to Heal” clinically supervised retreats for survivors of child sexual abuse. The job requires working as a Flower Field Labourer to help harvest and grow flowers that will be sold to cover the cost of the retreat. The farm is located just outside of Salmon Arm BC.
U Grow Girl is committed to sustainable agriculture and community development. The organization aims to empower individuals to connect with nature and provide survivors of child sexual abuse with a safe and supportive space to heal through their “Time to Heal” clinically supervised retreat. U Grow Girl uses sustainable, locally grown floral and healing-inspired artisan goods to cover the cost of the retreat, and the Flower Field Labourer is a crucial part of their mission to help survivors heal and reclaim their power. We are not a certified organic farm, however, we are spray-free and only use organic practices on our land.
DESIRED QUALITIES
U Grow Girl is looking for individuals who have a strong work ethic, are physically fit and able to lift up to 50 lbs, have a positive attitude, and are passionate about sustainable agriculture and community development. Prior field labor experience is an asset but not required.
We are also looking to access the Work BC Wage subsidy program. For U Grow Girl to qualify for this program our applicants must already be a BC resident. Applicants that qualify as priority client (Youth: Age 16-30, and individuals with disabilities) will be given special consideration.
JOB TASKS
The Flower Field Labourer will be responsible for assisting with planting, cultivating, and harvesting flowers in the field, maintaining a clean and organized work environment, operating and maintaining equipment and tools, and assisting with other tasks as needed.
JOB DETAILS
Term: This is a seasonal position with a contract length of approx. 24 weeks (weather dependent). The expected start date is 2023-05-15.
Hours per week: 35 hours a week, Mon-Fri.
Wage: The salary for the Flower Field Labourer position is $21.00 per hour.
