Forrest Farm in Salmo, BC is seeking a Regenerative Sheep and Goat Farm Worker!
ABOUT Forrest Farm
This is an 8-acre first-generation farm focused on regenerative farming practices that support local food security, environmental sustainability and most of all “best possible” animal health and welfare standards.
We are starting a provincially licensed Sheep and Goat Dairy and farmstead cheesery, where we produce artisanal sheep and goat cheeses right here on our farm! We grow a 1/2 acre market garden/cut flower garden that is completely pesticide and fertilizer free. We enrich our garden with compost made here by our sheep and goats and keep healthy pest-free plants by simply rotating crops and companion planting.
We sell a CSA that includes meat, eggs, vegetables, and cheese all produced here on our farm! We always make sure everything is fully utilized so we also sell wool from our sheep, and a line of goat milk soap and flower bouquets.
We strive to produce high-quality natural products while reducing waste and ensuring the best possible animal care. Our farm is exploring every opportunity to produce an economically sustainable food source, without compromising animal welfare or environmental impacts. We are no-till, no pesticide, no plastic.
DESIRED QUALITIES
We need an employee that is punctual and reliable, has strong organizational skills, and is self-directed. A good rapport with animals is critical, as the job will include moving animals and daily milking. A background in market gardening or dairy experience is preferred.
Education in agriculture or 1-year related farming experience is preferred.
We are a small farm, and do all of our own marketing, sales, design, and social media marketing so any skills that you can bring to the table are always welcome!
Animal care, livestock experience, good interpersonal skills, and an understanding of farming income related to time/production would be beneficial.
