Forrest Farm in Salmo, BC is seeking a Mixed Dairy & Market Garden Farm Manager!
ABOUT Forrest Farm
We are a small mixed traditional farm and new micro dairy, located in the Salmo Valley right next door to the Salmo golf course. We are raising a dairy herd of sheep and goats and are currently milking 12 Goats and 20 Sheep. We supplement this startup through a 1/4 acre market garden, a bouquet flower garden, laying hens, quail, and woodland raised pigs. We sell through farmers markets, and at our farmstand, and will have direct retail sales growing with our cheesemaking operation.

DESIRED QUALITIES
We need an employee that is punctual and reliable, has strong organizational skills and is self directed. A good rapport with animals is critical, as the job will include moving animals and daily milking. A background in market gardening or dairy experience is preferred.
An education in agriculture, or 1-2 years related farming experience is required.
We are a small farm, and do all of our own marketing, sales, design, and social media marketing so any skills that you can bring to the table are always welcome! Scheduling, spreadsheet and planning experience is helpful with seasonal garden planting and harvest.
Animal care, livestock experience, Good interpersonal skills, and an understanding of farming income related to time/production.
JOB TASKS
This job is a working manager position. It will involve:
- Daily milking of sheep and goats, overseeing feeding and tending to livestock (Goats, sheep, pigs, chickens, quail), cleaning out barns, direct involvement in the market garden (planting, weeding, harvesting)
- Packing and organizing CSA boxes,
- Scheduling and supervision of seasonal staff
- Management of inventory – Feed and supplies
- Lifting over 50lbs (hay bales approx. 60lbs, 40lb feed bags, and vegetable bins)
JOB DETAILS
Term: The position starts in Mid to late March and will run to January (42 weeks)
We are looking for someone to transition into a permanent position, our busiest time is from May – November, so no vacation time during these months.
Hours per week: 40hr/week, 8am-4pm. Must be willing to work weekends.
Wage: $18-$19/hr depending on experience
