ABOUT Square Root Farm
Square Root is north of Victoria BC in Central Saanich on about 8 acres of rented land in the Mount Newton Valley in the traditional territory of the W̱SÁNEĆ people. We grow all kinds of vegetables just about year-round for our small CSA and our restaurant clients.
We started farming in 2005, inspired to grow food using the organic methods we were learning about. We are certified organic and our growing techniques were developed to fit our small farm footprint. We take a careful and thoughtful approach that prioritizes ecological health and worker safety, while maintaining a good level of production. We take a lot of pride in sending good quality crops to our customers. Most of our work is done by hand with care and precision, but tractors and other equipment do some of the heavy lifting.
DESIRED QUALITIES
We’re looking for someone who:
- can commit to helping for the full season
- can keep up with our fast pace and our farm’s many details
- is conscientious and careful about maintaining a healthy and safe workplace
- wants to learn new skills and farm systems
JOB TASKS
We generally work as part of a small team together on big jobs to make it easier, but there’s a good mix of solo and group jobs. Our main tasks are things like:
- picking and bunching crops to order
- seeding and planting crops out into the soil
- seeding and caring for greenhouse seedlings
- weeding by hand and/or with hoes
JOB DETAILS
Term: Work starts in May and runs through October
Hours per week: 32
Wage: Starting wage is $19/hr
