ABOUT Richmond GAIA Farm
Richmond GAIA Farm is a 17-acre peri-urban farm in Richmond, B.C.and has been in business since 2014, mainly growing vegetables and berries. We take pride in our regenerative farming practice to grow quality food in a pesticide-free environment so as to maintain soil health. We are also raising chickens at our open field with non-GMO organic feed.
We currently need an experienced full-time Farm Field Crew to round out our operations. As an ideal candidate for the position, you are passionate about regenerative farming practices, a huge capacity for learning, can adapt quickly and easily to changes, and are keen to broaden your skills in small-scale farming. Priority will be given if you have farm experience in growing a range of Western and Chinese vegetables and care for chickens.
DESIRED QUALITIES
- High school education
- 2 years of general farm experience would be ideal
- Excellent physical health and fitness that able to lift up to 20kg
- Willing and able to work in different outdoor weather conditions eg sunny hot and rainy cold
- Strong mechanical aptitude and knowledge of operating farm equipment would be an asset but not required
- Canadian citizenship or permanent/temporary residency in Canada with a valid work permit
POSITION TASKS
The Farm Crew will work closely with the Farm Supervisor/Manager and be involved in all day-to-day farm activities, with tasks including, but not limited to:
- Planting, irrigating, weeding, harvesting crops,
- Monitoring crop health for signs of pests or disease,
- Managing care and feeding of chickens and overseeing egg production,
- Washing and preparing produce and eggs for market,
- Helping with the set-up, testing and maintenance of electric fences for rotational pastures,
- Operating and maintaining farm equipment and irrigation systems,
- Occasionally management of produce sales at our onsite farm stand, and when needed at off-farm farmers market.
POSITION DETAILS
Term: The Farm Crew is a seasonal position and an excellent opportunity for someone looking for recurring yearly employment. The Farm Crew contract runs from early June to the end of October 2025.
Hours per week: The position is 40 hours a week, with flexible work hours based on weather conditions affecting growing activities, and various seasonal farm demands.
Wage: Pay: starting from $19 per hour. In addition to salary, the Farm Crew will also receive 4% vacation pay. Year round employment beyond the end date will be possible for those who have demonstrated keen interest and proven track record, though not guaranteed. Climate and weather dictates the fluctuation of the duration of growing seasons thus the amount of work.
