ABOUT Richmond GAIA Farm
Richmond GAIA Farm is a 17-acre peri-urban farm in Richmond, B.C.and has been in business since 2014, mainly growing vegetables and berries. We take pride in our regenerative farming practice to grow quality food in a pesticide-free environment so as to maintain soil health. We are also raising chickens at our open field with non-GMO organic feed.
We are seeking an experienced full-time Farm Crew to work primarily at our farm stand and farmers market to round out our operations. As an ideal candidate for the position, a friendly personality and find joy in interacting with customers, passionate about regenerative farming practices, enjoy farming being your livelihood, a huge capacity for learning, can adapt quickly and easily to changes, and are keen to broaden your skills in small-scale farming. Priority will be given if you have farm experience in farm stand/farmers market sales in addition to other farming tasks.
DESIRED QUALITIES
- High school education
- Prior farm sales and general farm experience
- Excellent physical health and fitness that able to lift up to 20kg
- Willing and able to work in different outdoor weather conditions eg sunny hot and rainy cold
- Strong mechanical aptitude and knowledge of operating farm equipment would be an asset but not required
- Canadian citizenship or permanent/temporary residency in Canada with a valid work permit
- Must have a valid Canadian driver’s license
POSITION TASKS
The Farm Crew (Farm Stand) will work closely with the Farm Supervisor/Manager and be involved in all day-to-day farm activities particularly the post-harvest to sales, with tasks including, but not limited to:
- Customer service at farm stand and off-farm farmer markets
- Enjoy customer interaction and retention
- Develop new customers such as restaurants, grocers…etc.
- Post-harvest works include washing, packaging, and sorting harvested crops for sale at the farm stand and farmers markets
- Collect, washing and preparing eggs for sales and fill orders
- Using POS at farm stand and farmers market, inventory tracking, taking and fulfilling orders
- Though the main responsibilities of this post are the post-harvesting and sales works, occasionally especially during the peak season may require to work in the field such as planting, irrigating, weeding, harvesting crops, as well as caring and feeding chickens
POSITION DETAILS
Term: The Farm Crew (Farm Stand) is a seasonal position and an excellent opportunity for someone looking for recurring yearly employment. The Farm Crew contract runs from early February to the end of October 2025.
Hours per week: The position is 40 hours a week, with flexible work hours based on weather conditions affecting growing activities, and various seasonal farm demands.
Wage: Pay starting $19 per hour. In addition to salary, the Farm Crew will also receive 4% vacation pay. Year round employment beyond the end date will be possible for those who have demonstrated keen interest and proven track record, though not guaranteed. Climate and weather dictates the fluctuation of the duration of growing seasons thus the amount of work.
