ABOUT Athiana Acres

Athiana Acres is a 30-acre certified organic, regenerative farm growing a diverse mix of vegetables, fruits, herbs and flowers. We grow over 150 different varieties of crops and are passionate about sharing our harvest with our local community through our on-site market and harvest boxes, as well as supplying our favourite restaurants around the city! Going into our fourth season on the farm, we are searching for an experienced Full-Time Senior Grower to join our team. The ideal candidate is a seasoned, skilled farmer with experience in organic or regenerative growing methods of produce and flowers and is passionate about making a positive impact on our land and community.

The Senior Grower role will work closely with the farm management team, to execute all day-to-day operations to successfully carry out our annual and perennial crop plans.

KEY REQUIREMENTS:

  • 2+ year’s experience in farming, preferably in a leadership role
  • Physical ability to carry out farm tasks (crouching and bending for long periods, lifting totes of product, etc) and ability to work in all weather conditions
  • Valid Drivers License

POSITION TASKS

KEY RESPONSIBLITIES:

  • Lead role in overseeing crop and soil maintenance and health – pest management strategies, cultivation, mowing, cover crop programming, etc
  • Lead role in field infrastructure – trellising, staking, irrigation, etc
  • Carry out tractor and machinery work
  • Assist in record keeping, troubleshooting, cleanliness, and organization
  • Manage greenhouse production – ex. florals, peppers, tomatoes, cucumbers, etc
  • Training, supporting and mentoring junior farm staff (may involve overseeing of volunteers on designated dates of the season)
  • Projects may include – seeding, transplanting, harvesting, weeding, crop maintenance etc.
  • Maintain the farm’s high standards in product quality, cleanliness, organization
  • Assist in maintaining relevant certifications
  • Assist in scheduling of projects related to farm production operations

POSITION DETAILS

Term: Early 2025 (month flexible) – Dec 31, 2025. Potential for this to transition to permanent position at the end of the contract period.

Hours per week: Work Week: 40 hrs +/- based on seasonal requirements
Work Days: typically Monday-Friday 7am-3pm, can require flexibility for other days of the week depending on seasonal requirements

Wage: Hourly, $24.00/hour – may be adjusted, commensurate with experience.
