Northern Lights Estate Winery (Foreman Farm) in Prince George, BC, is seeking a Berry Farm Manager!

ABOUT Northern Lights Estate Winery – Foreman Farm

Northern Lights Estate Winery is the most Northern winery and largest fruit winery in BC. It grows fruit on four different locations with a total of 15 acres, host multiple events such as weddings and a Sunflower Festival. We are proud to be Prince George ‘s No. 1 place to visit for its wine and beautiful sites. We produce 10,000 cases of wine annually and sell throughout the province. The farm manager will work on the new 40 acres farm which grows 9 acres of berries, such as saskatoons, haskap, rhubarb and black currant, and will participate in the establishment of the 1.5 acre of sunflower maze and petting zoo. Harvest is done manually and mechanically depending on the type. All the crops are fertilized by fertigation.

Northern Lights daily farming practices include a focus on biodiversity, pollinator habitat, organic fertilizer, mechanical weed control and much more.

DESIRED QUALITIES

The ideal candidate will have a passion for food production, is self-motivated, organized, has experience with team management,  and is a jack of all trades (because we know equipment does break from time to time).

JOB TASKS

The manager will be responsible for:

  • Management of all fruit growing aspects including pruning, irrigation, fertilization, pest control, and harvest
  • Creating work schedule
  • Supervising farm crew (4-10 people)
  • Hiring farm crew
  • Maintaining and fixing irrigation
  • Equipment and site maintenance
  • Weekly purchases
  • Keeping track of budget
  • Designing, seeding and caring for 1.2 acres of sunflower for the Sunflower Festival open from end of August to September
  • Assisting with the set up of the Sunflower Festival features

JOB DETAILS

Term: This position is from the end of March until mid-October with possibility of extension to mid-November. During the off season, there is the chance to work in other departments if the candidate is interested.

Hours per week: This is a full time, 40 hr per week position. The season in the North is short and intense, so it may require a few days over  8 hrs. The work schedule is Monday to Friday, and the odd Saturday.

Wage: Starts at $23-25 depending on the experience, with travel allocation. Employees get store and event discount.
