Avalon Farm in Port Alberni, BC, is seeking a Seasonal Agricultural Assistant!
Avalon Farm is a 21-acre multi-use farm with certified organic blueberries, hayfield, organic gardens, and laying chickens. Each summer, we produce, process, and distribute thousands of pounds of fresh, organic blueberries on Vancouver Island, BC. We are located in beautiful Sproat Lake just 10 km outside Port Alberni.
We are proud to produce organic blueberries (NOOA #04-1923). The Avalon blueberry bushes reside in an ancient peat bog, which is very high in organic matter and provides the nutrients to keep them thriving. We have always grown 100% naturally, using a mix of compost and nutrients from nature to fertilize, and organic and manual methods to manage pests. We are inspected annually and work within an ethical system of continual review and ongoing support.
We are looking for motivated and detail-oriented individuals. The ideal candidates will have an interest in learning about organic farming practices, a willingness to work hard, and the ability to work both independently and with a team. Workers should have:
Typical job duties will include:
Term: The employment period is approximately June 15 through August 31, 2026, with flexibility to start earlier or finish later for interested candidates.
Hours per week: 35 to 40 hours per week. The farm operates 7 days/week between 8:00 am to 6:00 pm. Days and hours of work will vary within the farm opening hours and weekend hours will be required. A weekly schedule will be coordinated at the start of the employment period.
Wage: Pay: $20.00 per hour
