ABOUT Arrows Echo Farm
Arrows Echo Farm is a developing farm near Pemberton in N’Quatqua Territory. It was previously vacant land that hadn’t been farmed before. We are looking for motivated individuals to join our farm for 2024 and beyond. We have been certified as an “Environmental Farm” within the Agriculture Canada’s criteria as of 2023. We are aiming to be certified organic at some point. Operations are structured as a regenerative farm.
The farm is all about growing healthy happy food to provide a fulfilling life and livelihood for our holistic community. Expect hot summer days and lots of mud, rain, bugs, and cold.
We’re off-grid and have basic tools and machinery (one tractor) run off solar energy or generators.
LOCATION: Close to Pemberton, BC in D’arcy, next to Birkenhead Lake Provincial Park.
DESIRED QUALITIES
- Farming experience is an asset but not required.
- Is smart, strong, kind, and takes pride in hard work
- Will take direction and pay attention to detail
- Enjoys working independently and in a team
- Is physically fit; able to bend over for long periods; able to lift up to 50lb
- Must be comfortable being outdoors in all weather, learning new tasks, and working alongside fellow crew members, volunteers, and independently as needed. You will be expected to learn tasks, get faster, and provide honest self-reflection as well as feedback on how we can do better as a team. Farming can be repetitive and it can be challenging. A can-do attitude and sense of humour is crucial.
- Has reliable transportation and/or a valid clean driver’s license.
- Is experienced around and respectful of livestock
- Is excited about local food and farming
- Experience in physically demanding jobs or recreational pursuits
- Availability (start/end dates and days/week)
- Eligible to work in Canada (required)
- Registered in a program of a Canadian Education Institute or freshly graduated.
JOB TASKS
- Assessing and creating livestock pastures plus rotational pasture movement of livestock (Beef Cattle and Laying hens).
- Assisting in the development of a regenerative farm plan. Stock farm stand and assist in product development.
- Creation of feed stock, loading/unloading hay and assisting in infrastructure development including a new barn, plus planting, seeding, weeding, irrigating, and harvesting. There are a variety of daily tasks!
- Vegetable farming
- Livestock management
- Carpentry/machinery/building maintenance
- Driving truck/trailer/deliveries
JOB DETAILS
Term: May 18th or employee’s preference.
Hours per week: 24-32 depending on employee’s preference. We are open to adjusting schedules according to needs.
Wage: $18/hour x 24-32/week depending on employee’s preference.
Every employee has the potential to advance into consistent seasonal contracts, a long-term salaried management position, and/or year-round employment with the farm. In your application, feel free to highlight your long-term career goals if applicable.
Along with an hourly wage and consistent work hours ($18/hr), employees have access to fresh farm-grow produce, wild mushrooms, wildcrafted medicinal herbs, and other farm products (kombucha) throughout the season (plenty of veggies to take home!).
Employees generally live in the town of Pemberton, Birken or D’Arcy or perhaps even Whistler (1.5 hours away approx). On-farm accommodation may be possible for the right fit.
