ABOUT Moose Creek Organic Farm

We are a 4th generation family run farm located in southeast Saskatchewan. Since 1985, when the farm began converting to organic, a wide variety of grains have been grown on approximately 6000 acres of land, although not all of these acres are cultivated. We support research and learning and for several years have been part of the participatory plant breeding program at the University of Manitoba and worked on selecting wheat varieties with other organic farmers. We enjoy sharing our family farm with visitors and our employees and feel that our farm offers a unique opportunity for us to connect and pass on our knowledge, skill sets, and love for agriculture with others.

Southeast Saskatchewan organic grain farm is looking for a person who wants hands on experience on large scale, well established organic farm to learn about organic crop farming from research, to rotation planning, to seeding and harvest. Experience with farm or related equipment or agricultural research work preferred. Gain experience working outdoors and with farm machinery doing a variety of tasks depending upon skill level. Work in a supportive environment with training on the job. Position ideally suited but not restricted to: students, non-students and young farmers who are interested in agriculture, organic farming as a possible career choice, or in a related career and are looking for a summer of practical hands on learning.

DESIRED QUALITIES

experience with farm or related equipment or agricultural research preferred
valid Class 5 drivers license
attention to detail and safety
ability to work independently
ability to do physical labour and work outside in varied weather conditions
basic mechanical skills – this can include tractors, tillage and harvest equipment

POSITION TASKS

Equipment operation will depend on the level of experience and confidence employee has.

machinery preparation and repair
shop & yard work
storage bin cleaning and preparation
soil sampling and drone mapping

POSITION DETAILS

Term: April/May to November (flexible)

Hours per week: 40 – 45 hours, flexible work schedule with weekend off and most Sunday off except during harvest

Wage: $20-$25/hour, accommodation available
