Coop les Jardins de la Résistance in Ormstown (1 hour from Montreal), Quebec is seeking an Agricultural worker in diversified organic market gardening!
ABOUT Coop les Jardins de la Résistance
We are a workers cooperative that has been producing organic veggies and a few fruits for 16 years in the Chateauguay Valley of Quebec. We cultivate around 8 acres of mixed veggies using a combination of mechinised and manual labour. From June to November we deliver 375 vegetable basket a week to 6 drop off points in and around Montreal and the farm. We also have a winter basket program that serves 200 families over 24 weeks. The coop has 4 memberrs and we usually have around 5 employees. We are a close knit team and like to work hard and have fun.
On our farm we value an open and supportive work environment, solidarity and, of course, using the most ecological practices to grow our delicious produce.
DESIRED QUALITIES
Experience on a farm is definately a plus but mostly we are looking for folks who:
- Have an open attitude are positive
- Enjoy being part of a team but able to manage and motivate yourself
- The ability to lift loads of 25 kg
- Punctual
- Ability to work in all kinds of temperatures (cold, hot, rain, snow!)
- Training on equipment, techniques and protocols will be given to the selected person. Above all, we are looking for someone who loves learning, who wants to develop their farming skills and who loves vegetables!
Knowing French is also a huge plus but we are very bilingual.
POSITION TASKS
Employees will participate in:
- Weekly work meetings
- Planting, fertilizing, maintaining, weeding and harvesting vegetables.
- Conditioning and packaging of vegetables for product distribution
- Greenhouse work
- Other related tasks depending on the candidate’s interests and skills
We are keen to responsible folks who show interest in particular tasks. For example, if you love the field seeder or driving the tractor we will train you to be autonomous while doing those things.
POSITION DETAILS
Term: This position is 40 hours per week from the last week of April until the 2nd week of November. Their is a possibilty of working during the winter and returning the season after. We are also looking for new coop members, which is a position that can be applied for after 2 full seasons at the farm.
Wage:
Salary of $17.50/hour.
One Friday off every three weeks
One week of paid vacation with commitment for the entire season
A free basket and all the unsaleable vegetables you want (think about preserving and freezing for the winter!)

The opportunity to participate in decision-making and train the skills necessary to take responsibility
